I got into a situation earlier when I had to choose from two different brands of coffee makers. We all love brewed coffee at home so I decided to get one so that we could brew our own. However the choice is a High quality brand commercial bunn coffee maker and a lower quality but at a way cheaper price. When I say quality, I just meant design and brand. I cannot really argue about the built because what would I know about that.

So I decided to weigh the pros and cons. If I bought the high quality one, wouldn’t it be an overkill? It is almost five times the price of the cheaper one however because it is for commercial use, it will definitely last a lifetime at home. The cheaper brand on the other hand will definitely not put a hole in my wallet. Plus I can throw it away whenever it looks old already.

However, I remembered one of Randy Gage’s teachings… To get the most value for value exchange. I asked myself, is this cheap brand worth the price? Is this branded coffee maker really worth this much?

After much deliberation I bought the branded coffeemaker. The idea is to get the best. Honestly, it felt good. Even if it left a dent on my bank account.

Timeless Furniture

When I was about to redecorate our house, I realized how much fondness I had for logs and log furniture. My bed, vanity drawer and my computer desk are all log furniture! My bed is starting to feel like it’s about to give up on me though, it’s been on our family since my mom got married, and that would be about more than 30 years from now.

I think it’s about time I started shopping and looking around for log beds. Do you guys have any specific place to recommend for me to look? I promise I’ll take pictures and post when I’m done redecorating!

I don’t exactly know why I’m so fond of log furniture. I guess it’s because for me, they’re timeless, and they would never get old or out of style. I like sticking with the classics, you know.

Take pictures of your room and post them here! I’d love to see how all of your rooms look like. :)

Flower Power

I never understood floral arrangement value so I decided to look around on the wonderful world of the internet and read up on this topic.

Apparently the price of the floral arrangement correlates to the florist’s services and the value of the flowers used in the arrangement. A floral arrangement full of roses would be different from one full of tulips. There are websites that offer custom floral arrangements for less if you actually look hard enough.

Flowers can apply to almost every occasion, but you should be well aware of what flowers are appropriate to use for various occasions, because there are certain flowers that are normally used for specific celebrations because others may find it offensive. It would be best to look up your flower of choice on the internet or consulting your florist before purchasing anything. It’s never too late to be aware, you know? It’ll save you a lot of trouble!

For Her

My brother’s seventh anniversary with his girlfriend soon, and he asked me to help him find a present for her. Since he doesn’t seem like he intends to ask for her hand in marriage anytime soon, I’m leaning towards looking through amazon or ebay to get personalized gifts for her.

She’s a big fan of accessories so I was thinking about custom made bracelets. I haven’t the slightest clue about what kind of designs she wants though, so I can’t really help my brother with that. I suggested a customized couple shirt, too, but my brother complained that it was too cheesy and they’re both not into that kind of thing.

I’m not really good with thinking about presents for people so I write down things if I see that they want something or need something. I don’t even know my brother’s girlfriend that well. Do you guys have any suggestions? I’m really out of ideas now!

A Countdown Application

Every year I to stack up holiday cards and every year I also forget giving them. Whenever I pass by a card store, I get the coolest holiday card even if the holiday is still months away. I do this because usually the same cards do not stay on the shelves for long. The problem is, I  tend to forget the holidays. Yeah, that is how busy I am at work.

So this time I have decided to create an application on my iPhone – a countdown timer. This app will enable me to add dates and in turn it will keep track of them and will display a countdown in days, hours and seconds. This way I will not forget about the holiday, provided  I do not forget my iphone.

I have created an alpha version already. It took me just a couple of hours. However it made my iphone hang up a couple of times. I may have done a non terminating loop I guess. Oh well, as soon I perfected this I’ll post it here for free download. Bye now!

I can’t believe I bought a mercury grand marquis custom floor matsfor half the price! Earlier today, as I was doing my brisk walking routine, I walked by a neighbor setting up a garage sale. It was still early so I was the first customer. I do not know if it is fate or just plain luck but I was able to buy so many cool items for a huge discount!

Great huh. Aside from the carpet, I was able to buy some plastic gardening pots, a new barbecue grill, some tools oh and an ipod adapter. But come to think of it, almost everything I was able to buy looked pretty new. Even the barbecue grill was not used. I wonder if that is really a garage sale or my neighbor just opened up a department store at his garage. Oh well, no sense worrying about that now.

Be careful!

Insurance can play a big role in someone’s lives, and even if most people think that it’s unnecessary and that no one needs it, it will end up saving you a lot of money in the end.

I believe that the best advice I can ever give to a friend that is currently employed is to get a whole life insurance to invest in, assuming that they don’t have one yet.

A lot of factors should be considered when choosing a company to invest in, however. It would be best to ask friends that possess the same insurance plan and ask how the service of the company is.

My mom always said it’s better to learn from the experience of others than having to experience difficulty on your own, and that’s exactly the advice I would like to give to all of my dearest readers in this blog, as well.

Just remember, always be careful, it can never hurt.

On being physically fit

I’ve always been amused with bike racks on cars. I kind of imagined myself riding the bike on top of the car, pretending to be kicking the wheels to drive as fast as a car, but it’s kind of dangerous, and I’ve never even learned how to ride a bike.

It’s funny how I can actually drive a car and not a bike. I guess my sense of balance is worse than that of a cat who lost its whiskers.

I’m thinking about buying a thule bike rack for my car so I can actually start to work on my balancing skills on the bike, and so I can fail less at it.

Do you think it’s worth it? I mean, I really need to start exercising. I’m not that physically fit anymore. I find myself panting after climbing a flight of stairs, even if it’s just for three floors, and I can’t stand long walks anymore.

What kind of exercises would you recommend?

A friend of mine is celebrating her birthday tomorrow and I still do not have a gift for her. I always make it a point to give her a present because she has always been good to me. However I have no idea what to give? At first I thought of giving her a portable hard drive but then I remembered she is not too techie. She does not even use her laptop a lot. Then I thought of clothes. But then how will I know if she likes the one I pick for her? I thought of other gifts like a new phone, an aquarium, a pair of love birds, even a new kitchen sink. I was so concerned of what she will think about my gift so I was not able to buy any.

Then I had a great idea. To give the perfect gift, you must know the person really well. So I did a little research. Looked at her Facebook and twitter site and found out that she is into tennis these days. And what good gift to give to a sporty person than sports accessories right? So I decided to give her a tennis bracelet. I am sure she will love this. All thanks to Facebook and twitter.
