One month before my sister Anne’s wedding last February, she was fussing about finding wedding accessories that are intricately gorgeous but way too expensive so she can’t afford them. She said those jewelry matches her turquoise studded bracelet (something blue) which she bought in Paris last year (something old) and mom’s wedding tiara (something borrowed). Since it’s going to be the first wedding in my family and I wanted to make sure Anne looks stunning on her wedding day, I asked her to bring me to the jewelry store and show me if the fuss was worth it.

When she pointed the matching turquoise studded necklace and earrings, I found myself chuckling. I saw the exact jewelry in a store near my place and they were on sale at that time! I told my sister that they were indeed expensive, but I’ll give it a thought on whether or not I’ll give those as a gift.

I bought those from the store near my place on my way home and asked them to deliver it to her one week before the wedding day. Before I know it, Anne was gushing over the phone on how happy she is with my gift (something new) and kept thanking me profusely. I laughed and said, “Stop thanking, and just make sure you get enough rest and look gorgeous on your wedding day!”

And yes, Anne IS one of the most gorgeous and happy brides I’ve seen in this lifetime. I’m happy for her. ^_^

Cha-cha-cha-changes

“NO baby…you don’t need Kohler kitchen faucet.”

My sister Anne was kidding around with her husband Sergio yesterday while at the mall and hanging out. I love them. They’re so devoted to each other and both of them are crazy. Their wedding was probably one of the most sweetest and funniest. They aimed for an intimate wedding. Only invited 25 guests and they got married in a candle lit walk way at twilight. They would be moving to Spain in September. So now, they’re spending a lot of time with the family by almost traveling with us to the countrysides and museums every weekend, and doing sports with me and my brother regularly on the weekdays. Today was squash day and we were all having so much fun.

I will miss them. But i will miss my little sister the most. All changes are always for the better anyways.

In lieu with my newly discovered way to relieve back pains, I will try to live a healthy lifestyle starting… NOW. I realized that even though I am still young, I need to start taking care of my body. The Yoga class I attended earlier became some sort of an eye opener for me. The instructor not only taught yoga, but also gave plenty of healthy living tips. Since I was a new student, she suggested some things for me to do so that I can become healthy and fit. One of the things she suggested was to cut on carbs and start munching on veggies and fruits.

In the conversation, I had the chance to really look at my instructor up close. At age 35, her body was so slim and fit and her skin was almost glowing. If not for her certificate framed on the wall, I would have thought that she was my age. I asked how she maintains her youthful appearance and she told me that she just do what is best for the body. This includes exercise, lots of fluids, eating veggies, and staying away from sunlight during noon time. For the face she told me to use an wrinkle cream and always smile.

It’s never too early to start caring for your body. After all, prevention is always better than cure.

Two weeks ago, I accepted a job offer from this company and I promptly submitted my resignation letter to my boss. Today is my first day at work… Today I achieved my dream of working for my dream company. A new desk, a new chair, a new company, and a new chance to improve on my career and meet new friends.

Here, everyone seems to work smart (probably because of the smart-casual attire). The managers walk around and they are addressed by their first names. And people seem to be very friendly and enthusiastic. And the company, above all, values its employees’ well being.

Just now, I heard some guys talking about attending company sponsored sports activities and they are very enthusiastic about it. I also received an email about seminars on healthy living and weight loss diet. There are also scheduled technical trainings, team building events and some fun and games.

Basically everything seems so ideal right now. I really hope that this remains the same when I’m deployed to work. For now, I’ll stay in my desk and familiarize myself with the house rules and SBC.

Anna, one of my smartest and highly dependable staff, informed me last November 2009 that she’s very unhappy with her work setup and would be resigning. I was able to convince her to stay during that time. But then again, you can only do so much. Anna formally resigned last March 15 and her last day is tomorrow.

Times like these are very paradoxical for me. I feel quite melancholic on losing a great staff. At the same time though, I’m happy for her because she can finally spread her wings and follow her dreams; The look on her delighted face as she talked about her future work is quite envious actually. I want THAT look plastered on MY face.

I’ll be giving Anna a 16gig flash drive as a farewell present for her last day tomorrow. I know she’ll be backing up her files and some of those are definitely going to be personal files accumulated over her more than two years of service in our company. Consequently, she’ll definitely be needing the flash drive to be able to take home those files and ensure that there’s no traces of it on her computer. Hehehe.

Pent-up Frustrations

I’ve been in a lot of situations where my patience was tested. Since I’m generally a very patient person, I seldom lose my cool during those situations. However, the day the insurance man visited my home proved to be one such occasion where I not only lost my cool, I began venting about things I didn’t even know I was angry about.

It started innocently enough with an insurance man at the mall approaching me about term life insurance quotes, and the wholesaleinsurance.net website. I simply smiled at him and tried to walk around. To my surprise however, he side-stepped so that I couldn’t get past. He continued asking me more insurance questions and spewing insurance marketing jumbo until I just snapped. I don’t remember what I said but at the end of the outburst, it seemed the entire mall had just come to complete standstill. Eventually a mall cop approached us and asked what the fuss was about. By then, I was bright red with embarrassment.

I finally received my cousin’s wedding pictures after long months of waiting. She married her five year boyfriend half a year ago and now they are staying in San Diego. Since then I haven’t seen her, maybe because she was touring some country with her rich husband.

The pictures looked great! Every shot was print worthy and the married couple looked so good with each other. My cousin was wearing an elegant yet sexy gown while the groom was in a handsome tuxedo. From the photos I’ve seen I bet the wedding ceremony was wonderful. The venue looked pretty much like a grand ball and the guests were all so pretty! Even the bride’s maids lineup was remarkable. I was not able to attend the wedding because of my schedule but now I really regret not coming. Anyhow, congratulations and may you two live happily ever after, hehe.

I’m out this early to get a good gift for my Aunt Linda who’s birthday is on Sunday. To get an idea on what she would love to receive, I asked my cousin (her daughter) yesterday what her mom would like to get as a gift. She suggested that I get more of the wrinkle removing creams that her mom uses.

Looking at wrinkle cream reviews I found out that my Aunt is using one of the best anti wrinkle creams available. The problem is I can’t find any store selling that brand. Fortunately, a sales lady suggested a nearby mall that might have what I’m looking for.

And so I’m now in the mall (at McDonald’s) getting breakfast and using WiFi. I seem to have gotten here too early because it’s only 9 a.m. and the stores open at 10.  Anyhow, I hope that I find that cream fast because it’s only two days ’til my Aunt’s birthday.

Last Saturday I had fun playing around with the barcode scanner while my sister picks up things she would like to have for her wedding at the Bridal Registry. From Colorwave Pitcher Blue Dinnerware to the Mattress Pad-Queen Afi Crown Bed and Bath and Tefal Eureka Blu Cookware Set Kitchenware… of course, those are just suggestions to the would-be guests.

Then again, personally, I think having a Bridal Registry is the way to go nowadays; especially if you want to avoid having two or more rice cooker or toaster – it’s every newlywed’s nightmare. Also, knowing that you may be receiving a matching dining set to go with your furniture is definitely something to look forward to when opening the gifts after the wedding, don’t you think?

So, next time you decide to buy a wedding present, check out first if the couple’s listed at the gift registry.

Alone in the cold night

All these cold winter nights is making me depressed for no reason at all. Maybe it’s because of the lack of sleep, or the idea of sleeping alone in my apartment without anyone to talk with. Yeah, maybe that is just it. My room mate left two weeks ago to study in Europe. She had been my room mate for two years and we became close friends. She was like a sister to me and now she’s so far away. We only chat a few hours a day because of her busy schedule. She still has most of her things in the room though, including the heated mattress pads she bought on the net. She told me that I can use her stuff until she returns next year. Looking at her stuff makes me miss her more…
