On conserving paper

Recently I received a mail from my credit card company offering me some incentives if I enroll in electronic banking. With this I will not be receiving my statements in the traditional mail. They will just give me an electronic device which I must use in order to log in to my online account to view my latest statement. They are offering lots of perks like discounts and free movie tickets so I guess it’s a good deal. Although this got me thinking, if I still use cash to pay my bills, I still need to print my statements to be shown at the payment counters right? So I must also enroll in online bill payments in my savings bank.

A lot of companies have been implementing similar policies regarding conservation of office supplies especially paper. Nowadays, it’s very easy to print anything because of the shared printers in the networks. Unlike before when you need to wait for your turn just to use the old dot matrix printer. Anyhow, I really think that everyone should take part in conservation all of us can participate in our own little ways.

I had coffee with my PHP friend Sarah at CBTL yesterday after work. I heard she resigned from her company, which is near my office, and that today is her last day so we decided to meet up before her last day.

During the course of our conversation, she observed that my eyes seem to keep getting darker and wrinklier every time we meet. Her comment, though true, actually unsettled my confidence (in terms of looks anyway)… I think I need to start hunting for the best eye cream for wrinkles. Either that OR, I should take it as a trigger for me start looking for another job – one that does not contribute to my wrinkles. What do you think?

On buying comfort

My mom, sisters and I went to the mall last Sunday for some girl bonding. After buying 2nd hand clothes in a bargain store, we ended up going to a furniture store and trying out various sofas and chairs. They’re all so comfy but the prices are pretty hefty on the pocket! Even their pet beds which are already on sale are still quite pricey.

Then again, increase in comfort usually means increase in price. So for the ultimate comfort experience, shedding off money can be worth it. After all, money may not be able to buy everything, but if it can afford some level of comfort, why not?!

Anyway, after going through the furniture in the store and tagging them all as “must have” and “must not”, my sister Anne treated us to “500 days with Summer”.

When puberty hits

My youngest sister who is in her puberty stage started having allergies after eating oysters. At first her back really itched so bad. Then rashes appeared in her upper arms then in her face. We called our family doctor to tell us what to do for first aid. The doctor gave us an anti-allergy drug and so the itching stopped.

A week later my sister had red bumps on her forehead. We thought that it was an after effect of the allergy so we went to the dermatologist for a check-up. It turns out that the red bumps were actually pimples, starting to grow out. The allergic reaction from last week may have triggered the acne breakout. It is also possible that it was another of those puberty stages. At this early stage, the derma suggested a mild facial soap as her acne treatments. If the acne persists after a month, then facial creams may be considered.

handmade unique cards

I was recently approached by my friend to help her SEO their website. I later found out that she hand-paints greeting cards on her own and her creations are a hit in the top fashion places in the world such as New York and Paris. Unfortunately, she only gets very little commission from those, which is why she wants to venture into online selling.

She showed me some samples - two Christmas invitations and one birthday card. I was amazed at the intricacies of the cards. They’re simple, yet elegant. You can tell just by looking at them that her creations have a lot of potential in becoming one of THE best selling cards. It definitely cannot compete with Hallmark, but its uniqueness is a great selling point.

I still need to evaluate her website to see the feasibility of it ranking high in SERPs. Hopefully, I’ll be able to help market such wonderful creations.

My aunt, who’s been complaining of her accumulated weight, recently celebrated her 60th birthday. It’s been a family tradition to attend her dinner birthday celebration yearly so everyone went to her party.

We were all shocked to see her. She’s very thin now. We later found out that she had stress to thank for her current weight status, not one of those appetite suppressants. To be more specific, it’s stress due to the fact that when her house got flooded, all her documents in work got soaked as well to the point of being useless. Now she’s having a hard time restoring the documents.

Thank God we’re now in the information age where everything can be saved and backed up via computer and even internet. I mean, if I were in her place, I’d definitely lose weight squeezing my brains out on how to restore and recover all those drenched documents.

To all those complaining about their belly fat and round hips, I have one word for you – stress. It’s the most effective way to lose weight; for me anyway.

I mean, with all the workload piled up and deadlines you need to eat, sometimes, dieting is no longer an option. You either skip your break, or sacrifice your deadline for a particular task.

I’m seriously considering resigning and just become a consultant in my current company. Then again, I’m not yet that confident with my SEO skills. Plus, I want to make sure that the company I’m planning to create with my friends is already established before I resign. After all I don’t want to end up in the streets, hungry. That would be way worse than just being stressed.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but the Philippines is in a state of calamity right now due to Typhoon Ondoy (international name Ketsana) which hit the country last September 26, 2009. The country, according to reports, the amount of rainfall in nine hours last Saturday was more than the average monthly rainfall in Metro Manila.

According to more news, as of September 27, Sunday, at least 73 persons were killed and nearly 70,000 families were displaced by massive flooding after tropical storm Ondoy. Based from what I’ve seen in the news both online and offline, a lot of Filipinos have severely damaged houses due to the massive flooding. Some houses were only damaged in the first floors of their house and all they have to do is clean up their furniture, kitchen faucet and floor tiles. However, many houses there are bungalow type, making them now uninhabitable.

Two more typhoons are expected to hit the country within the week as well (Typhoon Parma over the weekend). Let us pray that everyone will be safe and will survive this calamity.
